5 Days

Chris was in LA for 5 days at Nickelodeon for work.  It is torture when your spouse gets to go somewhere cool WITHOUT YOU.  It brought back the sentimental yet horrible memories of Chris living in Chicago for 5 MONTHS while I was here in Salt Lake.  The hours spent face timing was incalculable and the amount of time we spent together during those months can basically be added up to barely two weeks.  Chris and I haven’t spent too much time apart since we’ve been married…  Which was a much needed break after the long distance dating.  I missed Chris the whole week while I went to school, cleaned, played words with friends, ate chick fil a, watched netflix, played casino with grandma, taught dance, edited. (watched more netflix.) I was super productive hahahaha. FINALLY, Chris came home Friday with Flowers from Jolley’s in hand and said “Can I take you out tonight?” Love that kid.

We got drinks at shivers. YUM. Then Chris decided he really wanted to go bowling.  I agreed and we headed to Olympus Hills Bowling Alley.  The reason we go to Oly hills besides the fact it is a great time is because they have our favorite arcade game: Big Buck Hunter SAFARI.  We arrive at the bowling alley excited to start the night with Big Buck Hunter.  WE LOOK EVERYWHERE.  They got rid of it.  Holding back tears Chris decided we would go to a different bowling alley.  This time we head to Sue & Rich’s.  Guess What? The coolest, most ghetto, cheap bowling alley is CLOSED. CLOOOOOSED for good! *wipes away tear* On to the next alley.  Fat Cats on 900 E. It is always packed on the weekends but the plus side… It has tons of arcade games.  We waited in line to buy a round of bowling and get our shoes for about 15 minutes.  When we got to the front of the line we both looked at each other and Chris said “Do we really wanna bowl?”  Got right out of line and headed to the arcade.  Unfortunately, they didn’t have the Safari version of Big Buck Hunter but the regular one did just fine.  We played a couple of games and headed home.  Quite the date night right?  I love that I can do anything with Chris and still laugh and have a good time.  That’s what your spouse should be for you.  A safe place, someone who can make any situation better.  Chris is that and more for me.

At least we got some good pictures.  Chris had my camera all week in LA and I had been craving it!!!! Here is what we got!

Moving

It has been almost a month since Chris and I packed up and moved.  When you think about it we only moved about ten minutes from where we were living.  But, let me be honest here.

I MISS IT.

I miss living downtown, the hustle and bustle.

I miss being in the seventeenth ward.

I miss being a leader in the Young Womens.

I miss getting to the U in under ten minutes.

I miss swinging by Chris’ work to go to lunch together.

I miss sitting on the Capitol Building’s Lawn.

I miss city creek.

I miss California Burgers and Deli.

I miss lots. (you get it.)

We were happy where we were.  Really happy.  So why did we all of a sudden move? Well for one thing the apartment we were living in only had a nine month lease which was ending in October.  We jokingly talked about moving somewhere when the lease was up but not very seriously.  It is never fun to pack everything up all the crap under our bed and in our drawers and closet etc.  That did not sound fun.  There was one dilemma.  Our apartment was quickly becoming too small.  We didn’t have a table to eat on or a desk to work at.  If you know Chris and I both of our jobs require a lot of work at the computer editing photos and working on after effects.  Sitting on the ground for several hours editing photos was becoming painful.  Bottom line. WE NEEDED MORE ROOM.  This made me kind of sad.  I felt ungrateful and vain.  How could two people have so much stuff after nine months???  Nonetheless I began the grueling task of searching through the KSL classifieds to see what was out there.  So many hours spent on that site.  After calling, texting, and emailing countless apartment owners I was becoming discouraged.  No place had everything we needed.  None were worth moving.  Until one Sunday night at my parent’s house we were watching a Niners football game and once again I was scrolling through KSL.  I came across an apartment with a familiar street name.  Sure enough it is a street less than a minute from my grandma’s house.  Not just my grandma’s house my newly married brother and sister in law’s house… and some of my favorite cousins, The Garriotts, Fuhrimans, and Nate the Great.  I have ALWAYS wanted to live on what we call the “Compound” but there was no place to live.

  Until NOW!

So I visited the place…  Basement apartment. PROS: so close to my relatives, TWICE as big as our other apartment.  CONS: it is OLDDDD.  Scariest bathtub you have ever seen.

Chris was absolutely against moving into this apartment.  I was devastated.  I was willing to shower in a terrible bathtub if it meant living right by my Grandma.  Chris didn’t quite understand that. Chris had been on his own for a long time now.  He had never lived right by family like I grew up with.  So I got over it. (kind of)  I realized it wasn’t something Chris would do.  We then visited the place Chris was dying to live.  Nice, big, GREAT bathroom.  Before going there I even told Chris we could live here… It’d be great.  I was trying.  We walk in with the owner and I just felt BLEH.  Which is weird because it was great.  I put on a smiley face though to make Chris happy.  The owner asked if we were ready to sign the lease.  Chris eagerly said “of course”  Luckily the owner forgot the paperwork!  We had the rest of the weekend to think about it.  As soon as we left I told Chris this is NOT where we are suppose to live.  That night we prayed for guidance of where to move or if we should even move.  The next day Chris talked the rent down on the place near my grandma.  Not only that he got them to resurface the bathtub!!!!!!!  IF THAT WASN’T GOD SENT I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS!!!  We moved in the next week and since then to say the least it has been so amazing.

I LOVE IT.

I love having room to breathe.

I love that we have kitchen table to eat at that cost $13

I love that we have a desk.

I love that I teach dance down the street and can run there.

I love that I can see my Grandma EVERYDAY.

I love that Chris gets to see how fun it is to live so close to family.

I love that I can go over to the Garriotts & Fuhrimans for anything like food, ib profen, and just good chats.

I love that we have already watched two movies with Nate the Great (Ghostbusters 2 & Robocop the Original)

I love that we spend our weekends watching football with my grandma and playing Casino with her.

I love that we can carpool to Family Sunday dinner with Asia & Zeke.

I love the quiet in our neighborhood. (you get it)

We are so excited for what is in store at this new apartment.

P.S. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED US MOVE! We couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks for the delicious meal at Stella’s afterwards.

Mom, Dad, Mckay, James, Asia, Zeke, the Gochnours, etc.

P.S.S.  I never want to ever have to move again.  It sucks.  (props to all those families who move all the time.. You the Real MVP)

These past few weeks have been a total blur.  With school and work and side projects I feel like I haven’t had time to breath… Plus i’m still in a food coma from last week’s ice cream post.  So in the spirit of keeping up with blogging I thought i’d post a few things i’ve been up to.

For the longest time on the drive to the Midway cabin, my siblings and I would point to this big hill and say “there’s Grandpa’s cabin!” It was at the very tip top of the hill.  I was so excited to show Chris where some of my crazy childhood memories were. (It has not been in the family for several years, but it’s still sentimental.   Sadly, on the way up to the cabin I couldn’t see Grandpa’s cabin! We walked up the big hill and the closer we got to the top I kept saying “I DON’T SEE IT CHRIS! WHERE IS IT!”  Finally at the very top all I saw was the foundation of Grandpa’s Cabin and the iron wagon wheel Grandma had placed there.  We were devastated!!! So I took a few wood blocks I could find and carried them back down the hill as a momento I could give my Grandma.  I am so sad that I won’t be able to point to the top of the hill anymore..

THE GIVEAWAY PRIZE:

Screen Shot 2014-08-12 at 11.58.00 AM

Proof’s Ontario Bamboo Wood Sunglasses

Not only do these glasses protect you from harmful UV rays they are also water resistant.

They just recently won outside magazine’s gear of the year award 2014

“Does the world really need more 1950s-looking hipster sunglasses? Absolutely—if the maker does something beautiful like carve the frames out of sustainably sourced trees. The look is authentic but also urban, in a Brooklyn sort of way. Put them on and the gray polarized poly lenses fight glare while improving detail. Things pop right away, because the neutral tint means your brain doesn’t have to make color adjustments. There’s some light leak at the sides, which means the Ontario ($90-125) doesn’t qualify as serious sports eyewear. Play all you want, though. Spring-loaded hinges, nicely inset, speak of solid construction. The Ontario is made to last, and admire, while giving shelter from the sun—like a tree. ” – Outdoor Magazine

MAX Adventure Zip Line

Here’s the thing.  I wished I loved hiking… I really do.  I haven’t found my love for it… yet.  Hopefully, I will soon or eventually.  Luckily, there are some outdoor things to do besides that for now. For example:

MAX Adventure Zip Line    in Provo Canyon

Directions

The guides were helpful and the lines were fun and fast. They use a great braking system and participants go on 5 zip lines from start to finish. You can get some great deals if you schedule a spot with several people! So get a group of 7 or 8 and go for $20 cheaper. I recommend going earlier in the morning so you aren’t in the scorching heat.  We went at 9AM and it was perfect timing.  Little kids will have blast too!

10 Ways To Make Your 4th of July Party Awesome

The Fourth of July! One of the coolest holidays.  Namely, because the U.S. is an amazing place to live!
I know most of you will be celebrating with a fun Barbeque so here are some ways to liven up! ENJOY!

1. MUSIC
I am the biggest advocate of background music at parties.  It sets the tone! It can make a party less awkward.  It is the ultimate Ice Breaker. Luckily, I made a fun American themed playlist ( MERICA )! Follow me on Spotify @ SaraJane George to get the playlist!
fourth1
2. Patriotic Prizes & Giveaways
I got patriotic socks, windmills, decals, etc.  It’s also handy to have red, white, and blue stuff that others can wear in case they forgot to come in MERICA attire.
fourth63. Non Firework Fun
It can be difficult to make the Independence Day thrilling without fireworks.  However, some kids are way too young to participate.  Martha Stewart had a great idea.  Fill balloons with confetti and pop them!  A colorful explosion without letting your kids near fire. Another idea… Have a bike parade! Let the wee ones decorate their scooters, bikes, and trikes!  Let them strut their stuff on the sidewalk!a0d7e2544a357c36b9c93c7a238176324. Food Decor
I am no cook.  But what I can handle when it comes to BBQ-ing is the presentation.  A hamburger or hot dog looks even more beautiful when its accompanied by a fun lined basket, paired with festive napkins.
fourth75. Long Exposure Shots
These pictures can be so fun for young and old alike.  It brings out creativity and imagination!  July Fourth also happens to be the perfect time to do them because of SPARKLERS!!! Here is a link to a tutorial post I did on Long Exposure Shots.
fourth5Here are my nieces and nephews taking a crack at it!Roadtrip22.png
6. Outfit Competition
Encourage your guests to wear patriotic and festive attire! The more outrageous the better! Best outfit gets a prize.
fourth87. GAMES GAMES GAMES
- water balloon dodgeball- played exactly like dodgeball except you get soaking wet!
-Baseball or Football- what’s more American than those sports?
-croquet- it really brings the classiness factor up at a barbeque.
-Potato Bag race or Three legged race- I love these games because it gets every age involved.
fourth2
8. Trivia
Have U.S. history and trivia questions ready while dinner is being prepared.  It’s fun to see how much we really know about our AMAZING nation. Here’s a few links to some trivia questions: American Trivia, More American Trivia, Even More American Trivia
fourth3
9. Flag Hunt
Take some mini flags and hide them through out the yard.  Similarly to an Easter egg hunt, little ones go searching!  The one who finds the most flags wins a prize.  Another way to have a flag hunt is to make it a counting competition.  Hide flags everywhere, little ones and big ones, on napkins and plates. etc.  The only rule: Flags that people are wearing on their own body do not count.  Know before hand how many flags there are in the yard.  The person with the correct answer wins a prize!
fourth4
10. Sweet Treats
Pinterest had this awesome idea of taking a classic American treat, Root beer floats, and making them even more patriotic.  I changed the idea slightly but you could do any variation really.
-Cold mug
-Vanilla Ice Cream
-Jones Soda- Strawberry Lime and Berry Lemonade (Red & Blue)
-Fresh Rasperries
AWESOME.  It is honestly so refreshing and tasty!
fourth10Have an awesome Fourth of July! U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A!

Class of 2K14

Had some fun with my sister and her friends today!  Needless to say they are ecstatic that they have graduated from Olympus High School this year! So naturally we had to celebrate by taking some fun pics!

What would you leave behind if you could? What would your legacy be?  I was always sort of bummed that I didn’t get to have a senior quote in the yearbook.  It would have been nice to leave my fellow classmates with something I found interesting, exciting, and what I believed in.  This year I am trying to live by my wannabe senior quote… “Wherever you are be all there.” - Jim Elliot.  It can be difficult with all the distractions to focus on where you are at the moment and what is really important.  Having a husband and an iPhone with games, social media, texts, etc. can make it difficult to really spend time together.  I hope that when I leave this Earth I will leave others feeling like I made time for them and appreciated the memories made.  Look up and smile at one another!  Let’s be all here.

I’d love to hear what your life motto or senior quote is! Let me know!

If the yearbook would have let them have senior quotes this is what they’d be:

Brooklyn: “What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet.” – unknown

Faith: “Grateful for the friends i’ve made but I’m excited for a new scene. Peace and Blessings.”

Anna: “Take care of all your memories for you cannot relive them” – Bob Dylan

Elizabeth: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
